born one of 8 into a family of entrepreneurs in a rural MN town, anne’s midwestern work ethic was built in, but so was a sense of adventure. after pocketing degrees in spanish and international business & economics from st. kate’s, she packed her bags for california where a stint at a desk job led her to a woman-owned bakery gig. from there, she traded in her degree for a certificate from the san francisco baking institute and the rest is, you know.

she founded honey & rye in 2013, and through passion and perseverance – not to mention a wedding, a baby, a cancer diagnosis & recovery – she became the total bad a$$ pastry-slingin’ babe we know and love today.

kate sharp chief communications & people officer

since opening day in 2013, kate’s been an integral thread in the fabric of honey & rye. she’s spent time in nearly every position from front-of-house to back, to eventually become anne’s right hand and left brain. a seasoned home cook with a refined palate, she’s our go to for input on balance of flavor. with an appreciation for hospitality, she has a keen ability to find the small touches that help curate the customer experience. a true Libra, she seeks beauty and order in all things. her two kids cut their teeth on croissants and help her to keep balance between work and play.

andrea grage director of admin

andrea was willing to do literally anything to work at honey & rye, so in 2021 we hired her to whip our office into shape. the wheels have stayed on the bus ever since and our inbox has never been cleaner. we knew she was the one even before we received the hand-sewn thank you card. as a music lover and the mom of two teenagers, she splits her time between car pooling and concert going. like her wicked pickleball serve and her master’s in photography, she continually surprises us with her hidden talents.

anne joined us in june 2025 with an enthusiasm that is unmatched. her history in coffee began 15 years ago when she was student manager of her college coffee shop & she hasn’t looked back since. hailing from a long line of home bakers, she has a deep appreciation for how pastries & coffee create community. with her keen eye for details, she strikes the perfect balance between whimsy & order. anne spends her free time with friends, books, paddle boarding, playing zelda or dnd & weight lifting.

nellie larranaga café manager

nellie joined us in 2025 just in time to leap head first into our busiest time of the year, thanksgiving prep. her determination, work ethic, and ability to lead with compassion were immediately on display. she comes to us after a decade in retail leadership, including a long stint at whole foods, where she honed her skills in operational management and team development. nellie thrives in collaborative environments and loves fostering a workplace where people feel invested in, valued, and respected. in her spare time, she pours her energy into crafting and painting inspired by mexican folk art, and challenges herself daily by practicing brazilian jiu-jitsu & coaching crossfit.

julie mcanich research & development

julie was born to bake. she joined honey & rye as a part-time baker in 2019 while still working as an occupational therapist. just over a year later she had set that career aside to join us full-time. she has a knack for creative flavor combinations, is precise in a way that helps set the pace of the kitchen, and is constantly looking for someone to ‘try this!’ with a sparkle in her eye. julie excels in being organized, getting the job done right, and thinking of others all along the way. the best days are when our crew gets a visit from her husband, chris, and daughter, birdie, passionate foodies in their own right. the bakehouse menu would not exist without julie’s contributions and continued pursuit of wildly delicious baked goods.

olivia simper marketplace & events manager

olivia has grown alongside honey & rye since year one, taking time in between for school and overseas adventures. she loves a celebration, but don’t make her choose between halloween & st. patrick’s day. her superpower is her sense of humor and she’s always down to clown. you’d be hard pressed to find her without a cold press in hand.

joshua werner kitchen manager

joshua joined us in january 2026 with more than 20 years of experience. his passion started young with his first kitchen aid mixer & a summer job assisting his mom’s cooking classes. then it was on to french pastry school in chicago, followed by a stint assisting team USA in the coupe du monde de la pâtisserie, and most recently serving as lead pastry chef in a fine-dining kitchen. he’s also an accomplished chocolatier, operating his own small business. his utter lack of ego & eagerness to learn quickly stole our hearts. in those rare moments outside of the kitchen, joshua spends his time hanging with his cat, gertrude, exploring new recipes & wishing it was warmer outside.
